Biography

In 1998 I traveled to Croatia as a performer in a children's theater company, Trade City Productions and, while there, made some photographs of a group of young bathers playing off of a concrete boat dock. Although they were wearing only swimming suits, I was surprised at how the look of the people in my photographs seemed so essentially particular, and different than that of people I had photographed in the United States. As a direct result of the trip, I joined an Italian street theater company and toured extensively with a stilts and ballet production, visiting eleven new countries from Morocco to Poland. Although we are fond of saying how alike we all are in demonstration of our embrace of all humanity, I find the differences in the people I have photographed incredibly beautiful, and elemental to my love of humankind. The people in these photographs move differently from one another, their feelings come through thier faces and bodies in different ways, and they show up differently in the photographs. Enjoy sharing them, finding what is and what is not yourself in these humankind photographs.
